Prior to my introduction into Domain Name Registration and Website Hosting Services I used a Telnet service in the early 1990's that allowed me to connect to the Denver Public Library data base of information and AOL or Prodigy to access the World Wide Web (www). At that time I had a Mac and Windows PC that I used for the Internet, Desktop Publishing and Electronic Pre-Press.

I registered my first domain name in 1995 when AOL, Prodigy, and CompuServe were about the only internet service providers available at the time and that the most "speed" one could expect from their home computer was a 14,400 baud dial-up internet service.

Domain name registration practices and services were still being developed and today any reputable Domain Name Registration service is ICANN affiliated.

 

Things have certainly changed.

In 1995 people were still figuring out what the "@" refered to and Google was yet to be launched. Yahoo, Hotbot and Starting Point were several of the most popular "search engines" and SEO (search engine optimization) had yet to become the buzz word that it is today.
